The Cincinnati Bengals, founded in 1966, have a storied history in the AFC.  The Bengals have won seven division championships and have won the AFC title twice.  Despite two SuperBowl appearances, the Bengals have never hoisted the Lombardi trophy.

In 2011, the Bengals hopes of a postseason looked bleak as they would have to face division rivals Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers twice.  But the Bengals seemed to finally be able to focus on football without the disctractions of celebrity wide receivers and reality TV shows.  Losing their first two of three, the Bengals went on to win five in a row and would eventually secure the second wild card spot in the AFC, both coming from the AFC North.
